Nici Eberl

Concert Photographer, UK

I kept watching the photographers in the photo pit and dreamed of being one of them, but I never felt good enough and was too shy to present my work. After completing Matthias' training I became the house photographer of the O2 Forum, got published in Kerrang! and had over 300 bands in front of my lens. - Nici Eberl.

1. What did you think about concert photography BEFORE enrolling in Shooting The Rockstars?

I had a passion for Music and Photography since I can think and somehow ended up being the photographer of an Austrian Youth Magazine when I was still at school. And that was the time when I shot my first ever gigs but to be honest I had no idea what I was doing - Auto Mode was my best friend. Just when I moved to London I realised that Music Photography is what I really want to do. I kept watching the photographers in the pit and dreamed of being one of them but never ever would I have though that I’m really going to end up being in there. I was just way to insecure and though I am not good enough BUT then I found Matthias’ Shooting the Rockstars and the adventure started.

2. What did you think about concert photography AFTER going through the training?

After completing Matthias’ course I finally got the technical knowledge I needed and felt ready to get my name out there. I realised there is no reason to be afraid to show your work and started to throw myself in at the deep end. I started to understand how the music biz works and how social media can lead me to success. I realised that nothing is impossible. When you are willing to put lots of hard work into your project then you can make your dreams become reality. It’s not easy as the music business is one of the toughest ones and there are constantly ups and downs but in the end it will pay off.

3. What big problem were you facing BEFORE Shooting The Rockstars? What from Shooting The Rockstars helped you solved that problem?

My biggest weakness was my insecurity. I never felt good enough and was too shy to present my work. Matthias’ course made me realise that there is no reason to be afraid and that I am not the only one who struggles sometimes. The course and our Shooting The Rockstar community has helped me grow and made me get my name out there. I learned how the music biz works and how I can use my Social Media channels. It helped me build some great relationships and I know when I have a question there is always someone in our community who knows an answer.

4. What specific results have you achieved as the result of this training?

Since I completed Matthias training I started to work as House Photographer for the O2 Forum in London, covered my first Festivals, got published in Kerrang! and the o2 Magazine, shot gigs for the Academy Music Group and TicketWeb and I have had over 300 bands in front of my lens.

5. What would you tell another “new student” of Shooting The Rockstars? What words of advice would you have now that you’ve gone through the program?

Congratulation you made the first step in the right direction by joining Shooting The Rockstars. Now all you have to do is work hard and follow your passion and your dreams can become reality. I wish you all the best and should you have any questions you can find me in our community.
